MYLA is dedicated to improving the community by promoting access to justice through pro bono work.

MYLA takes very seriously the need to improve access to justice for the poor. Every year, MYLA involves itself with different pro bono projects.

This year, MYLA is:

  • Promoting Pro Bono opportunities by hosting a Pro Bono Cocktail Reception with the Milwaukee Bar Association and Wisconsin Law Journal;
  • Promoting Education Advocacy for Kids in Need, through training and working with Kids Matters to match volunteers with kids; and
  • Providing free legal services at the Law Day legal clinics.

Law Day

May 1st is National Law Day. MYLA celebrates by helping to host free legal clinics and legal hotlines for those in need. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Mike Balter at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Volunteer Lawyers Project

MYLA, an original co-sponsor of Legal Action of Wisconsin's Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP), invites lawyers who are interested in providing pro bono legal services to low income people to be an active volunteer. Participating in the Volunteer Lawyers Project is an effective way for lawyers to meet their professional pro bono obligation and contribute to their community by helping their clients protect the safety, stability and health of their families, maintain safe and affordable housing, and secure benefits that will assure food, medical care and financial support.

For more information about the pro bono opportunities offered by the VLP, contact Patricia Risser, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 414-274-3063 (toll-free 888-278-0633, ext. 3063).

Education Advocacy Training and Pro Bono Opportunity

Each year, hundreds of disadvantaged youths in Milwaukee need help fighting for their educational rights -- whether getting into special education classes, having their special education needs met, or being represented at a disciplinary hearing.

MYLA works with Kids Matter to train attorney volunteers and match attorneys with youths in need.  If you are interested in learning more about this program or becomming a trained volunteer, please contact Jill at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
