Community Service
Public Service
Giving back to our community should be a goal of every lawyer. MYLA is dedicated to improving our community through public service.
Every year, MYLA hosts its pumpkin farm event where MYLA seeks volunteers to chaperone disadvantaged children to a local pumpkin farm. The children go on a farm tour, enjoy a hay ride, and pick their own pumpkins in a pumpkin patch.
At our Annual Judges' Night, MYLA includes a Toy Drive for disadvantaged youths.
MYLA also promotes public service by:
- Working in partnership with groups like the Sojourner Truth House and Kids Matter to better serve our community;
- Informing members of opportunities for public service;
- Holding drives for needed items, such as our food drives, toys drives, etc.,; and
- Coordinating public service projects.

Pro Bono
MYLA is dedicated to improving the community by promoting access to justice through pro bono work.
MYLA takes very seriously the need to improve access to justice for the poor. Every year, MYLA involves itself with different pro bono projects.
This year, MYLA is:
- Promoting Pro Bono opportunities by hosting a Pro Bono Cocktail Reception with the Milwaukee Bar Association and Wisconsin Law Journal;
- Promoting Education Advocacy for Kids in Need, through training and working with Kids Matters to match volunteers with kids; and
- Providing free legal services at the Law Day legal clinics.
Law Day
May 1st is National Law Day. MYLA celebrates by helping to host free legal clinics and legal hotlines for those in need. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Mike Balter at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
MYLA, an original co-sponsor of Legal Action of Wisconsin's Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP), invites lawyers who are interested in providing pro bono legal services to low income people to be an active volunteer. Participating in the Volunteer Lawyers Project is an effective way for lawyers to meet their professional pro bono obligation and contribute to their community by helping their clients protect the safety, stability and health of their families, maintain safe and affordable housing, and secure benefits that will assure food, medical care and financial support.
